NOVASTRA

How to move your Strong history into Novastra

It takes two minutes and it is free: export a CSV from Strong, upload it under Profile → Your data → Import, and your sessions join your Novastra history with their sets, weights and dates.

Before you start

Importing is free and there is no limit on how many times you do it. No subscription, no trial, no card: it is the first thing anyone switching apps does, and charging for it would mean charging you before you have seen Novastra from the inside. All you need is your Strong CSV and the app on an Android phone.

Step by step

  1. Export from Strong

Open Strong and go into its Settings. On iPhone the option is called “Export Strong Data”, on Android “Export Data”. You get a CSV with your whole history, one row per set. You do not need Strong PRO to export.

  2. Get the file onto your Android phone

If you exported from an iPhone, email the CSV to yourself or put it in your cloud drive and download it on the Android phone that has Novastra. Do not open or edit it: it goes in exactly as Strong wrote it.

  3. In Novastra: Profile → Your data → Import

Pick the file with the system file picker. Novastra works out which app it came from by looking at the columns, so you do not have to tell it.

  4. Check the summary before anything is applied

Before your history is touched it tells you what it understood: which app the file is from, how many workouts, how many sets, and how many it will skip because they are already in. If the file does not state its units —which happens with Strong depending on the version— it asks whether you were logging in kilos or pounds. Everything is stored in kilos, like the rest of the app.

  5. Tap “Add to my history”

They are added to what you already have. Nothing is deleted or overwritten.

Exercises that are not in the catalogue are not lost

If an exercise in the file does not match any of the 907, Novastra creates it under the name it came with and marks where it came from. Not a single set is dropped for having an unfamiliar name: losing your data to protect a catalogue would be exactly backwards.

And those imported exercises do not use up your cap. Creating your own exercises from scratch is a Premium feature, but the ones that arrive inside your history do not count: you were not creating anything, you already had them.

Do it twice and nothing is duplicated

Novastra identifies each workout by its start time and skips the ones already in. Reimport the same file just in case, or export again in a month to pick up what is new, and only the missing ones go in. The summary tells you how many will be skipped before anything is applied.

Two things worth knowing

Imported workouts give no XP: rank is earned by training here, and handing out twenty levels for uploading a file would empty the progression of meaning. And this is different from restoring a Novastra backup: a backup replaces your whole state, because it is a backup; a history from another app is added to yours.
