Barbell Shrug
Back · Barbell
How to do it
Standing with the bar in front of or behind your thighs, arms straight. **Shrug straight up towards your ears** and hold for a second at the top; lower under control and feel the traps stretch. Do not roll the shoulders: rolling adds nothing and loads the joint. You feel the upper traps. The classic mistake is bending the elbows and turning it into a pull.
Variants
The drawing shows one way of doing it, and the technique above describes that one. Almost every exercise has variants — standing or seated, the grip, the bench angle — and is still the same exercise: if you do it another way, write it in the exercise note and you will have it every time you train it.
