Wide Stance Barbell Squat
Legs · Barbell
How to do it
Bar on your upper back and feet **clearly wider than your shoulders**, toes turned out. Descend sending your hips back and driving your knees out in line with your feet, past parallel; stand by pushing the floor outwards with both feet. A wide stance loads far more glute and adductor and less quad, and **it needs less ankle mobility** than a narrow one. The classic mistake is letting the knees cave in on the way up: think about spreading the floor with your feet.
Variants
The drawing shows one way of doing it, and the technique above describes that one. Almost every exercise has variants — standing or seated, the grip, the bench angle — and is still the same exercise: if you do it another way, write it in the exercise note and you will have it every time you train it.
