Leverage Shrug

How to do it

Stand between the machine handles, take a comfortable grip and lower your hips as you breathe in, eyes forward and chest up. Extend hips and knees to lift the weight to standing, and from there shrug your shoulders towards your ears, holding for a second at the top. The machine carries the load in line with your body, so there is no bar to clear or to drift forward. You feel the traps all over. The classic mistake is bouncing the weight off the stops between reps: pause at the top, not at the bottom.

Variants

The drawing shows one way of doing it, and the technique above describes that one. Almost every exercise has variants — standing or seated, the grip, the bench angle — and is still the same exercise: if you do it another way, write it in the exercise note and you will have it every time you train it.
