Kettlebell Pirate Ships
Shoulders · Kettlebell
How to do it
Wide stance, one kettlebell held in both hands hanging at waist height with straight arms. Turn to one side, raising the kettlebell on a diagonal to shoulder height, return to centre and repeat to the other side. The weight travels side to side like a ship's mast, and what really works is the shoulder holding it far from your body and the obliques braking the turn. The classic mistake is letting the arms bend on the way up: straight arms make the long lever, which is the whole point.
Variants
The drawing shows one way of doing it, and the technique above describes that one. Almost every exercise has variants — standing or seated, the grip, the bench angle — and is still the same exercise: if you do it another way, write it in the exercise note and you will have it every time you train it.
