Dumbbell One-Arm Shoulder Press
Shoulders · Dumbbell
How to do it
Seated with a backrest or standing, a single dumbbell at shoulder height with the palm forward and the other hand free. Brace abs and glutes before pressing: with weight on one side, the torso wants to lean the other way and your core is what stops it. Press to a locked elbow beside your ear and lower to chin height. One-armed you can take the dumbbell slightly lower than with two. The classic mistake is leaning away to get leverage; if the opposite shoulder rises, drop the weight.
Variants
The drawing shows one way of doing it, and the technique above describes that one. Almost every exercise has variants — standing or seated, the grip, the bench angle — and is still the same exercise: if you do it another way, write it in the exercise note and you will have it every time you train it.
