Close-Grip EZ-Bar Press

How to do it

Lie on a flat bench with an EZ bar gripped on its narrow section, hands about a hand's width apart. Unrack and hold it over your chest with straight arms. Lower to your sternum with **your elbows tucked** and press as you breathe out. The EZ bar sets the wrist at a natural angle, so a close grip does not end up hurting the way a straight bar does. The classic mistake is going narrower still chasing triceps: hands touching is what makes the elbow pay.

Variants

The drawing shows one way of doing it, and the technique above describes that one. Almost every exercise has variants — standing or seated, the grip, the bench angle — and is still the same exercise: if you do it another way, write it in the exercise note and you will have it every time you train it.
