Atlas Stones

How to do it

Stone between your feet. Hinge at the hips, wrap your arms vertically around it and try to get your fingers underneath; most stones have a small flat face at the bottom that helps. Squeeze it into your body and bring it to your lap by extending hips and knees; from there reset your arms higher, step in and extend to load it. Contact is everything: **if the stone leaves your chest, it falls**. You feel the upper back, the biceps and your grip. The classic mistake is trying to keep a flat back as in a deadlift; here the upper back rounds.

Variants

The drawing shows one way of doing it, and the technique above describes that one. Almost every exercise has variants — standing or seated, the grip, the bench angle — and is still the same exercise: if you do it another way, write it in the exercise note and you will have it every time you train it.
