Smith Machine Close-Grip Bench Press

How to do it

Flat bench under the guided bar, at a height you can reach with your arms almost straight. **Close** grip, hands at shoulder width or slightly less, palms forward. Unhook, lower to your sternum with the elbows tucked and press. The guide takes balance out of the equation, so you can push close to failure without a spotter on a grip that is awkward to control. The classic mistake is going so narrow that the wrist ends up forced.

Variants

The drawing shows one way of doing it, and the technique above describes that one. Almost every exercise has variants — standing or seated, the grip, the bench angle — and is still the same exercise: if you do it another way, write it in the exercise note and you will have it every time you train it.
