Single-Arm Cable Crossover
Chest · Cable
How to do it
Pulleys high and a single handle. Stand in front of the station with one foot forward, chest up and torso leaning slightly. With the elbow in a fixed bend, let the arm open out and up until you feel the chest stretch, then close towards the middle, crossing slightly in front of your body; squeeze for a second. Working one arm lets you cross past the midline, which is exactly where the chest finishes contracting. The classic mistake is letting the shoulder roll forward as you close: the chest pulls, the shoulder stays put.
Variants
The drawing shows one way of doing it, and the technique above describes that one. Almost every exercise has variants — standing or seated, the grip, the bench angle — and is still the same exercise: if you do it another way, write it in the exercise note and you will have it every time you train it.
