Seated Barbell Twist
Core · Barbell
How to do it
Sit on the end of a flat bench with a **light or empty** bar on your upper back, feet at shoulder width and planted. **Rotate your torso side to side** slowly, keeping your hips completely still and your chest up, without letting the bar pull you around. Seated, the hip is locked and the turn comes from the thoracic spine. The classic mistake is doing it fast with momentum: whipping a bar across your shoulders is exactly what your lower back does not want.
Variants
The drawing shows one way of doing it, and the technique above describes that one. Almost every exercise has variants — standing or seated, the grip, the bench angle — and is still the same exercise: if you do it another way, write it in the exercise note and you will have it every time you train it.
