Push Press - Behind the Neck
Shoulders · Barbell
How to do it
Bar racked **on your upper back**, as in a squat. Feet under your hips. Dip a few centimetres with the knees without pushing your hips back, and reverse hard to send the bar overhead; finish by pressing with the shoulder to locked elbows. Lower to the back of your neck under control. **It needs real shoulder mobility**: if you cannot hold the bar back there without hunching, do the front push press. The classic mistake is dropping the bar on the way down.
Variants
The drawing shows one way of doing it, and the technique above describes that one. Almost every exercise has variants — standing or seated, the grip, the bench angle — and is still the same exercise: if you do it another way, write it in the exercise note and you will have it every time you train it.
