Clean Shrug
Back · Barbell
How to do it
Shoulder-width grip, overhand or hook, with the bar hanging at mid-thigh. Back flat and torso leaning slightly forward. Shrug your shoulders hard towards your ears, as if finishing a clean, and return. You can load more than a clean because there is no catch, but **do not load it so heavy that you stop actually shrugging**: if the shoulders do not rise, you are just holding weight. The classic mistake is pulling with the arms; the elbows stay straight from start to finish.
Variants
The drawing shows one way of doing it, and the technique above describes that one. Almost every exercise has variants — standing or seated, the grip, the bench angle — and is still the same exercise: if you do it another way, write it in the exercise note and you will have it every time you train it.
