Barbell Side Bend
Core · Barbell
How to do it
Stand with a barbell on your upper back and your feet at shoulder width. **Bend your torso to one side** at the waist, without twisting or leaning forward, until you feel the stretch on the opposite flank; return to the middle squeezing the obliques and do the other side. Very slow and light. The classic mistake is letting the hip travel with the bend: the pelvis stays still and only the spine bends, which is what makes the obliques work.
Variants
The drawing shows one way of doing it, and the technique above describes that one. Almost every exercise has variants — standing or seated, the grip, the bench angle — and is still the same exercise: if you do it another way, write it in the exercise note and you will have it every time you train it.
