Axle Deadlift

How to do it

Same as a deadlift, but on an axle bar: thicker and with no knurling, so **grip is the limit**. Bar centred over your feet, feet about hip width. Hinge at the hips to grip at shoulder width, usually one hand over and one under. Take a big breath, drop your hips until your shins touch the bar, chest up, and push the floor away. It feels like a deadlift except your forearms give out first. The classic mistake is grinding to grip failure and letting the bar roll in your hand: end the set before that.

Variants

The drawing shows one way of doing it, and the technique above describes that one. Almost every exercise has variants — standing or seated, the grip, the bench angle — and is still the same exercise: if you do it another way, write it in the exercise note and you will have it every time you train it.
